Yesterday I went looking for some cheap canvas and gesso. I came home with 5 sheets of Foamcore. I reasoned that I had saved money getting that for my painting pours – I had never used it before, so it would be interesting to say the least. This was A3 size. Acrylic and water.
It started out well…lovely detail shots here
If only it would stay like that…hrrmph! Like all pours, things change, and this is how it dried out this morning.
Its alright I suppose…..still some nice detailing mostly….but the beginning was much better. Also, being foamcore, it warped like mad, making the paint pool in the most annoying way!
But hey, its all about the learning. I wonder what else I can use…..
Who would have thought Scotland could bask in such heat? I’d forgotten what the sunshine felt like! So glad to be in the house rather than outside – I’ve been painting this morning. Well, not actively painting with a brush, more just pouring paint around. here are some detail shots of the ones I like.
One thing I’m learning about this technique, is that (apparently) the idea is to get cells appearing, which shows the colour underneath, but, I don’t like cells. I mean, this one is very pretty, and its still changing, but……I prefer the flowing and merging colours of a marble effect. Its personal preference, of course, but…..
….I much prefer this look….the veiny patterns and random shapes, all soft and flowy.
Still, both are nice in their own way. I’m trying to get hold of some decent varnish or even resin (gulp) to coat the surface of them. I love the glassy look rather than matt, although I’m kind of worried about the chemical element of such things. Ah well…..onwards and upwards.
So today we sailed off to the beach – one of many little islands dotted around the Scottish coast. It was a bleak day, mostly…muggy and grey. I only took my phone camera with me to snap a few shots, so here they are…
This was the view from the ferry – see how grey blue it all is? But interesting things happen on the water…
A rusty old fishing boat
A yacht. (Not mine, sadly!)
I found some jellyfish….GIANT jellyfish on the empty beach as the tide was going out…
My walking boot for scale
These things were like something from a horror movie!
Look how clear the water is though!
We found some ancient standing stones – I took this in black and white to highlight the “faces” I see there. I see faces in most things!
I tried to rescue an escaped cow that couldn’t get back in her field…..she ran away from me and her friends gathered around moo-ing defensively. I left them to it. Scary things, cows are – especially in a gang!
On the way back on the ferry, I just had to take a photo of this adorable lighthouse!
As we waited for the train, I saw this……now someone did make a face with this….didn’t they? They did. So funny!
I know, another obsession brewing, heh! But look!
I’m just showing two bits of the same painting here, because it changes all the time – but this is just acrylic paint and water on a canvas. I’m just loving the tiny detailed swirls. Its a small canvas 30 x 40cm, but the entire thing looks like marble. I’m looking forward to it drying so I can varnish it and bring out the colours.
Whoot! Hi everyone! Glad to be back – issues still ongoing, but lets not be moany. I hope you are all having a fine day.
Lemme show you something I have been working on – its poured painting. These shots are all different parts of the same painting.
Remember when I tried the hairdryer paintings, and said I didn’t want to try acrylic poured painting because it involved chemicals and stuff? Well I got some good results just using water and paint.
The thing with this technique is that it changes ALL the time – for example….this shot here no longer exists. It had morphed into something else by the time I had uploaded the picture.
This is at the bottom of the picture and is beginning to dry. When the paint dries, it gets quite muted so I’m going to have to find a varnish that can bring back the vibrance and shine.
Hi everyone – I’m writing this on my tiny phone so if there are spelling errors, forgive me. Anyway, my internet has mysteriously been re routed somewhere else randomly, leaving me with no landline and no internet. I’m in the middle of an argument with my ISP who insist on charging me despite this problem, as they say it’s not their fault. I’m at an impass right now and thinking about escalating it legally. It’s a real pain, so I just thought I would pop in and explain. Missing blogland terribly, but am still creating. Once I get this sorted out I will have so much to show you!! See you soon…..
