4 years on the blog! eek!

Well well well…..who would have thought it. An email came through congratulating me on my 4 years blogging. REALLY???? Gosh…..

sadmonster1

This is the first doodle I posted here way back in 2015. I think the post was about making a doorstop for someone (a doorstop, I know….who does that?? Me, clearly…..) I don’t know why I posted the sad monster doodle….I’m generally quite cheerful when I’m creating! But yes…4 years give or take a few gaps when life interrupted the flow of things. When I started, I didn’t think I would last half as long. I have met so many wonderful people on here, and I thank you all for wandering along with me online. To new followers, welcome! I hope you enjoy the odd musings that pop up here from time to time. 🙂

Making a tiny art book

So I made this little art book, just for out and about travelling to work and things.Tiny art book

I made it with strips of long paper all folded together…..lemme show you

IMG_3291_Moment

I splattered a huge sheet of recycled drawing paper with watercolour paint….Jackson Pollock style. (That cup of orangey liquid, is watercolour water….its not juice, heh!)

4 strips

Then waited for it all to dry, before tearing into 4 long strips. I may have used a hairdryer……it helps move the paint around too.

accordian style

Then I folded up the strips into equal sections, making the pages of the book. What I love about this is are the details that emerge in the smaller format. So many are missed when viewing a large sheet, but making it smaller just brings a different persepective to the artwork. I see shapes and patterns that I didn’t notice before.

Tiny art book

Stick a cover on it, doodle around the colourful shapes that I see, and make art. Its quite interesting making something out of random blobs and dots. And having some colour already on the pages, takes away that “oh what can I draw on this pristine white sheet of paper?” feeling.

I’m going to make another one now – it only takes about 20 mins to do (including drying time)

Anyone would think I liked to draw!

pencils

Hello (again). So after my last post, I was thrown into more work between two shops and 12 hour days once more. Charity retail is not for the faint hearted, I can tell you! Creative time was limited, my mood worsened (I know, I know, introvert problems, what can I say) and finally…..finally, I have a few days spare.

So I decided, once and for all to get my act together. I collected every pen and pencil I own, and sorted them out, cleared my desk, tore up some scrap paper and cobbled the pages together with cable ties (because the less *perfect* a sketchbook looks, the more inclined I am to play in it. I do have the most lovely embossed leather sketchbook, which I received 3 years ago for Christmas. Needless to say 3 years on, I still haven’t touched it)

My aim is to create/draw/paint/doodle/note take, every day. Just a short time, say 30 mins max. Not creating a work of art (pressure), not for Instagram or Pinterest (because….pressure – although I’ll share some things on here because I like you 🙂 ) I’ll stick random things of the day and just play. Gosh I miss it.

table

So this is my little set up. Drawing stuff within grabbing distance, paper ready to be scribbled upon, and coffee. Always the coffee. Out of shot is a little portable CD player (old school, yep) so I can immerse myself in music should the mood arise. Also, no interruptions! Happy Days! Hope you are all well. x

…..and the story begins again

Hello. Again. I just checked when my last post was, and it was….a long long time ago.

So! Once upon a time, there was a woman who got a part time job. Then she got her own shop to manage!

yaay pic

After giving 110% for many months in a completely toxic work environment, where she gave too much of a f*** about literally everything, she got signed off sick. sad face pic

Then she got a part time job starting tomorrow.            thumbs up pic

The end.

Hello! I’m creeping in here wondering if its changed much. I don’t think it has. I did wonder if it was a good idea to return, given that so much has happened, and wondering if anyone even blogged anymore.

I haven’t been creative at all to be honest. The job sucked my soul away, and I’m only now beginning to feel a bit normal. Hey ho.

But I hope you are all here, functioning, and blogging. I’m sitting here with some paints set up, and I’ll do a bit after dinner. Hope you are all well.

Oh hello!

Well goodness me – Happy New Year! Can’t quite believe how much time has passed since I was last here. Crazy times –  how are you all?

So….my last post was in September. A lot has happened, mostly work related so we won’t go into that, as its not really relevant. I’m still working though, which is always good. However, I was thinking that I really should get back into creating – something which has been sadly lacking over the past few months (taking photos for the shop twitter account doesn’t count).

My intentions for this year are nothing grand to be honest. Just simply to get back in touch with creating art adventures, but introducing new art ideas that have been musing at the back of my mind. Because ideas never stop, they just can’t always be actioned!

I hope you are all well, and I wish you a great year!

All work and no play! :(

mini painting landscape

So I have a job now. Hence my absence. I may have a job and a half after Wednesday, but for now I have *a* job. Until December. Its in a shop, nothing like an office, but its ok….although dealing with people all day is exhausting. (Introvert problems y’see)

Trouble is, I have no time to be creative which annoys me. I’m still finding my feet and getting time to play is few and far between. However, I did manage the mini painting up there, and a bit of decalcomania

decalcomania grey

decalcomania blue

And now I’m going to nap. Because working is hard work. 🙂

Random bits and bobs

balloon streetI took this photo last night as I nipped out to the shop to get some milk. I thought it was fun, all these balloons just lying around in the street. Heavens knows where they came from!

Anyway, I’m trying to think of some ideas for the charity event that is happening soon in October. More about that later (I have no news, just that all staff need to contribute something to raise money – eek!) Obviously I would like do something creative, but not sure yet what to do. Some ideas I have on my list just now are:

Watercolour doodles:

I did this one way back  using watercolour splatting and drawing around it.

Keyrings:

cupcake key ringpoint1

These keyrings are made from corrugated cardboard, or paper beads that I rolled up and painted.

Bubble Photos:

Purple jewel

Bubble photos are great fun, and not too “out there” haha!

I love doing other things, as most of you well know, but some of my stuff is a little bit odd, shall we say……I need to keep it mainstream really. Not that bubble photos are mainstream, but you know what I mean. I also thought about painting stuff and upcycling, so if I find any more items to do that with, I shall give it a go.

Happy Friday! 🙂

Upcycled Bread Box!

So I altered another charity shop find…..well it was going in the bin, so I had to rescue it! Had To…..!

breadbox1

This was originally a plain wooden box thing for bread. I stained the wood (with acrylic paint) and glued scrapbook paper onto it. The paper already had a grungy look to it, so I went with it. I liked the aesthetic, so just followed through. On either side I covered two cardboard tubes with paper and glued one end to a point so that anything (paint brushes, etc) I put in, wouldn’t fall out. One the other side I papered over a little box and used that for pencils.

inside BBInside I stained the wood again, and used it to store paints (in the orange pouch), paper, palettes and a jar (for water). I love how the door bit folds open so that I can paint on it like a little table, so cute! So yes, I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out – only took a day to do it.

If I find something to upcycle again, I will do a before and after, or even a video, ha!

Vintage Collage

So I have veered into the word of Vintage Ephemera……which is a whole new place for me. I was initially inspired by some youtube videos of books/journals that were being made with scrapbook paper ( I bought a whole stack of pads last week from the Poundworld chain of shops that was closing down, purely because they were pretty. I had no plan in mind, I just didn’t want them to go to landfill)

So I was browsing the videos, wondering where they got their images from, found some free image sites, downloaded a few images to see what they looked like, and made this…..

weird collage thing

Naturally I had to go with the surrealist in me…..no straightforward matchy matchy for me, oh no. So here we have a steampunk scrapbook page, with random cactus placed along the bottom. The cacti have upturned strawberries as flowers (heh!), and an early 19th century girl stands among the thorny plants waiting for her beloved. He brought along his giant pet bird because he couldn’t find a sitter, but the bird doesn’t mind as he found a friend in the upper left corner. So yeah, that was fun. Off to find some more pics now – apparently vintage is a *thing* just now – who knew?!
