All work and no play! :(

mini painting landscape

So I have a job now. Hence my absence. I may have a job and a half after Wednesday, but for now I have *a* job. Until December. Its in a shop, nothing like an office, but its ok….although dealing with people all day is exhausting. (Introvert problems y’see)

Trouble is, I have no time to be creative which annoys me. I’m still finding my feet and getting time to play is few and far between. However, I did manage the mini painting up there, and a bit of decalcomania

And now I’m going to nap. Because working is hard work. 🙂

Random bits and bobs

balloon streetI took this photo last night as I nipped out to the shop to get some milk. I thought it was fun, all these balloons just lying around in the street. Heavens knows where they came from!

Anyway, I’m trying to think of some ideas for the charity event that is happening soon in October. More about that later (I have no news, just that all staff need to contribute something to raise money – eek!) Obviously I would like do something creative, but not sure yet what to do. Some ideas I have on my list just now are:

Watercolour doodles:

I did this one way back  using watercolour splatting and drawing around it.

Keyrings:

cupcake key ringpoint1

These keyrings are made from corrugated cardboard, or paper beads that I rolled up and painted.

Bubble Photos:

Purple jewel

Bubble photos are great fun, and not too “out there” haha!

I love doing other things, as most of you well know, but some of my stuff is a little bit odd, shall we say……I need to keep it mainstream really. Not that bubble photos are mainstream, but you know what I mean. I also thought about painting stuff and upcycling, so if I find any more items to do that with, I shall give it a go.

Happy Friday! 🙂

Upcycled Bread Box!

So I altered another charity shop find…..well it was going in the bin, so I had to rescue it! Had To…..!

breadbox1

This was originally a plain wooden box thing for bread. I stained the wood (with acrylic paint) and glued scrapbook paper onto it. The paper already had a grungy look to it, so I went with it. I liked the aesthetic, so just followed through. On either side I covered two cardboard tubes with paper and glued one end to a point so that anything (paint brushes, etc) I put in, wouldn’t fall out. One the other side I papered over a little box and used that for pencils.

inside BBInside I stained the wood again, and used it to store paints (in the orange pouch), paper, palettes and a jar (for water). I love how the door bit folds open so that I can paint on it like a little table, so cute! So yes, I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out – only took a day to do it.

If I find something to upcycle again, I will do a before and after, or even a video, ha!

Vintage Collage

So I have veered into the word of Vintage Ephemera……which is a whole new place for me. I was initially inspired by some youtube videos of books/journals that were being made with scrapbook paper ( I bought a whole stack of pads last week from the Poundworld chain of shops that was closing down, purely because they were pretty. I had no plan in mind, I just didn’t want them to go to landfill)

So I was browsing the videos, wondering where they got their images from, found some free image sites, downloaded a few images to see what they looked like, and made this…..

weird collage thing

Naturally I had to go with the surrealist in me…..no straightforward matchy matchy for me, oh no. So here we have a steampunk scrapbook page, with random cactus placed along the bottom. The cacti have upturned strawberries as flowers (heh!), and an early 19th century girl stands among the thorny plants waiting for her beloved. He brought along his giant pet bird because he couldn’t find a sitter, but the bird doesn’t mind as he found a friend in the upper left corner. So yeah, that was fun. Off to find some more pics now – apparently vintage is a *thing* just now – who knew?!

The Elephant in the Room

elephant

I got this elephant from the charity shop where I work as a volunteer (maybe I haven’t said before, but I have been there a month or so now just to keep me busy) and it was a simple white ceramic elephant. I jazzed it up with acrylic paint to make it a little bit funky. (The customers of the shop are so funny – I could write an entire blog about it in itself, but *privacy issues* y’know…..)

I also used the elephant as a way to get my creative “mojo” back on track since I lost it for a while. Its been a busy wee month here, although still no jobs are happening. (I kind of get fed up after a while when nobody even bothers to reply)

Hope all is well out there in blogland. 🙂 Now I have some focus, perhaps posting here will become a bit more frequent!

Quick update

Hello all!heron 1arranJust a quick update really, to say hi. I finished my course and passed everything so feeling good about that. The following week I had an actual job interview which I failed abysmally so lessons learned from that! More job hunting, more family drama and now I have a tooth infection which had swollen my face! So only now has the adrenalin stopped, and I can feel myself starting to relax a bit (albeit with a fat face, haha!)

chocolate and violet cakeI visited the youngest in Edinburgh, where we sat in a café window with coffee and cake, watching the world go by.

boat1

Sailed on the water to an island (not on this boat mind you – this is just a photo I took) and wandered around beaches with mountains in the background…

goatfell1

and generally tried to avoid random strange guys like this……

magic statue guyThis is an actual person! I would love to know how he does this 🙂

So yeah, the last couple of weeks have been interesting to say the least, but right back at it now with job applications I guess. I haven’t been creating much, which I feel bad about, but hopefully things will get back on schedule this week!

Just a little random post

butterfly forget me nots

So today I decided to venture out in the sunshine (Its lasting a rather long time don’t you think?) and I wandered up to the old church grounds where I like to sit in peace and quiet. I noticed some lovely forget-me-nots next to me, so crouched down to get a decent shot. I used some weird defocusing app on my phone camera and ended up with floating flowers *ahem* It was only the background I meant to fuzz out, but these flowers look rather surreal……like butterflies.

daisy defocus

Kindof like this idea…..I do like daisies, but they smell a bit off.

I printed these pic off and stuck them in my new notebook. I had an idea to keep some sort of scrapbooky, notes, ideas, kind of thing…..like a journal but more doodling and artful. I used to do it as a kid and have been toying with the idea again. Of course now, its a whole expensive industry of its own, but I’m doing it “old school” for nostalgia sake, with sticky tape and messy writing. I’ll show it when its done. Just something to keep me occupied, since I only have a couple of weeks left of college.

Last day of placement tomorrow – I’m bringing in some nice biscuits as a thank you (and part apology since I keep eating theirs at break time!)

My temporary work commute

Blossom church

So, with this college course…..I have to complete a small work placement. Its just for experience, to put what we have learned, into practice. I ended up being placed in a small doctors surgery in the middle of the countryside……basically because I was the only person who wanted it. Everyone else in the class wanted “city slicker” hospitals because there was more chance of being taken on as an employee. Fair enough, but from what I have seen there are many different vacancies all over the place. I’m quite laid back and utterly uncompetitive…I’ll get a job somewhere, heh!

Anyway, my point is…..as my classmates were cramming into trains, buses, traffic jams, etc on a baking hot day…..I was meandering along country roads filled with cherry blossom, listening to birdsong, feeling the warm sun on my face and taking photos en route.

river trees

Such a beautiful river that I had to cross.

bridge

By way of this bridge. Look at how unbusy it is, heh!

Bluebell path

This little path is filled with bluebells. I had to cut through this to get to the place I’ll be working for the next couple of weeks.

Church

A lovely old church – just down the road from the one at the top of this post. The place I work is just up the road and round the corner. The day went by quite well, and I spent lunchtime sitting by the river watching a heron, feeling so appreciative and grateful that I’m not trapped in a hot sticky office!

Tomorrow is going to be raining apparently, haha! Doubt I’ll be as cheery then 😀

Two more collages

I’ll stop in a minute, but you know I get enthusiastic about things once I start!

party rocketParty Rocket”

When it became clear that Rebecca had left her shoes on the last rocket of the evening, the trio struggled to come up with excuses for their parents. Being grounded at the start of the holidays was not a welcoming prospect.

David the AnthunterDavid the Anthunter”

David knew his teacher would think him so clever for using a disguise to help with the assigned Nature Project at school. Already he imagined the rapturous applause at morning assembly, but what he looked forward to most was bringing his new pet to Show and Tell on Friday……

Paper Collage

Hello – Happy Bank Holiday Monday if you have one. If you don’t, and have to go to work, well I hope you have a lovely day anyway! 🙂

I made a couple of paper collages with a stack of old National Geographic magazines that I found in a charity shop over the weekend. Such lovely images and quality paper!

Edith and the moon bird

Edith & The MoonBird”

Edith decided to take control of the situation and release the bird her husband gave her all those years ago. Teetering up the side of the moon in her brand new high heels, she wondered how she was ever going to explain it all to the neighbours. The Post Office was already agog with gossip about her husband disappearing. Edith also wondered if Mrs Henley would like it up here…….

The meerkat Kids

“The Meerkat Kids”

The boys seemed be enjoying the scenery so much, that Bethany decided that now probably wouldn’t be a good time to mention that it was nearly teatime, and she hadn’t eaten since yesterday.
