I took this photo last night when out with the dog. Again its the local Abbey (12 century dontchya know!) and what struck me was the single cherry tree – which is now very old, blooming as much as it can. I think the surrounding trees are struggling to flower this year….I have noticed that less and less blooms are appearing as each year passes. In fact, the council are now starting to chop a few trees down, which is very very sad, but if they are diseased or something, maybe its for the best. Down below the Abbey is the river which cuts through the town. It hosts so much wildlife, like herons, swans, ducks, otters, kingfishers, etc. This was taken in the evening so its getting dark and not much can be seen, but I thought this was a nice shot anyway. I’m trying to record the Abbey as it is, before it becomes a visitor centre with a glass frontage (ugh!).
Hello everyone! I hope you are all well. Gosh its turned SO cold today – we had snow and wind and allsorts….I thought it was supposed to be Spring! Anyway, I did this little decalcomania painting of a little stream running through some reeds out into the open river. I was thinking of my local river and how high it is with all the recent rain, and the treacherous waterfall that pounds over the rocks – I really must take a photo in the next couple of days, because it has swamped all the little islands that the ducks live on, and now they are all paddling furiously around trying to find food and dry land! (Having re-read that I realise how terribly British it is to complain about the weather. My last post was on that subject too – I do apologise *ahem*)
Hello everyone, I hope you are enjoying the weekend! I wanted to share this painting with you, because…..well, I’m kind of excited about it. (Everything I do makes me stupidly happy, but still….there is always room for more smiles!)
This is in a larger size format……most of my decals are fairly small, about A4 size (8.3 x 11.7 for US people), but this…..this….is huge in comparison! Its almost like A2 size…..(approx 16 x 16 inches – although strictly speaking A2 is 16×23 inches)
The larger size means a different way of working, as in trying to get a new consistency for the paint, different drying times before lifting it from the surface. I’m also using different paper so I have to allow for that too…gosh who knew hard thinking could be this much fun! 🙂
I’m working on a larger size so that I can actually try and get some framed to hang on the wall…..instead of using an app to see what they “would” look like if they were bigger.
Anyway….thats what I’m doing this weekend. What about you?
Hello everyone! I hope you are all well 🙂 Just a quick catch up here because its been a few days….
I have been painting watercolours, and its so hard to do! Being a surrealist, I find it very hard to paint an actual “thing”, instead I like to allow chance to play a large part, then use my imagination from there. Having to paint a landscape or still life with the grapes and flowers on a lacy tablecloth is……a tad tedious to say the least. I prefer to take photographs, like this one from a couple of years ago – so pretty.
But I thought I would try and at least attempt to paint a *proper* landscape for a change, and I have to say that – while its not great – its not too bad for a first attempt.
